A&A Revised Edition - Game 1 Round 2

Axis & Allies - Revised Edition
Game 1 Round 2

Game: Axis & Allies (2004 – Revised 20th anniversary edition)

Strategy Notes and Round Results

USSR

USSR's strategy of attacking, thinning out German infantry, and then retreating in order to preserve their tanks and fighters seems to work well. They expand using this strategy in additional spaces -- West Russia as well as Ukraine. USSR needs this to work to slow Germany's invasion and give UK and USA time to build up invading forces to attack Germany from the west.

Germany

Germany takes the slow approach invading the Soviet Union. Their goal is to win easy IPC victories, but without spreading themselves out too thin. Instead of concentrating on USSR, they add navy to the Mediterranean Sea and plan to strike at UK by taking away IPCs in Africa and the Middle East.

UK

UK doesn't have a lot of attacking power right now. They use their bomber for strategic bombing raids against German factories, and build new troops in South Africa. Their main goal right now is to build and plan for future options.

Japan

Japan continues to push into the Middle East and by bringing navy units into Sea Space 34, they give themselves options to land troops in Africa or to join the German navy in the Mediterranean Sea and create a strong defensive force.
Japan continues to push against China and the eastern Soviet Union. Their goals right now are to take the easy territories and to build navy for their eventual confrontation with USA.

USA

USA moves part of its navy towards the South Pacific. Part of their plan is to take IPCs away from Japan by capturing their islands. Another strategy is to try and split the Japanese navy so they won't have to fight it all at one time. If this works, they may even send units to help protect Australia and New Zealand.
On the East Coast, USA moves their navy so they can begin shuttling infantry from Canada to UK.They plan to move infantry and possibly fighters to help defend UK from a German attempt at Operation Sea Lion. Eventually they plan to do the same for USSR, but they will need more transports and the North Atlantic will have to be clear of all German naval units.

Post Round Notes

Russia
Attacking and retreating seems to be working. USSR needs more tanks and fighters though. Their initial force isn't strong enough to keep doing this strategy for long.

Germany
The strategic bombing raids are killing the German economy. USA is adding more bombers. This problem will only get worse. We need to hit on some Anti-Aircraft rolls.

The Mediterranean Sea is ours. We can transport units into Africa and the Middle East. Can we get to South Africa by round and Moscow by round 6? That is the goal. But that might be the fastest it can be done. As long as the dice rolls are lucky.

UK
Keep South Africa. Tanks are strong units for attacking and defending. We need to keep a source of IPCs.

Add to the navy and prepare to land in Norway. This will take away German IPCs and open up a route to supply units to help defend USSR.

Japan
Must crush eastern USSR. Pick up IPCs and weaken USSR for German invasion.

Add more navy. Plan to use submarines to strike USA. Their navy is going after our islands. We must respond by picking up IPCs in Africa and possibly Alaska.

Or we could take our whole navy and sail past their and head for Brazil? This will put pressure on Eastern USA. Also the navy will be in a position to take South Africa and help Germany in the Atlantic. This would be an interesting tactic, but we don't have the resources to keep a supply of fresh naval units and infantry for Asia. Maybe a long term goal once we are earning more IPCs.

USA
Coordinate Atlantic navy with UK. We can help add infantry to the Norway attack and possibly transport units to Africa as well.

Must always build something off the west coast, just to keep Japan occupied. But the main goal has to be helping USSR and preserving victory cities.
